DEPARTMENT OF EMPLOYMENT AND LABOUR

The Department of Employment and Labour is committed to advancing employment equity and fair representation across race, gender and disability categories. Appointments, promotions and transfers will be guided by the Department’s Employment Equity Plan and its established representation objectives.

CLOSING DATE AND APPLICATION SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS

Applications must be submitted by 15 August 2025. Walk-in applications close at 16:00, while online submissions close at midnight. Applicants applying electronically must attach only the completed Z83 application form and an updated curriculum vitae (CV). Both documents must be combined into a single PDF file. The email subject line must clearly state the advertised position and its reference number.

Applicants must send their applications to the correct email address specified for the advertised position. Applications submitted as JPEG images, photographs or screenshots will not be accepted. Failure to comply with these requirements may result in disqualification. All applications must quote the relevant reference number and use the latest Z83 application form, available from any public service department or through the official government website at www.gov.za/documents.

Applications submitted using the outdated Z83 form will not be considered. A separate application form must accompany each advertised position for which an applicant applies. The form must be completed in full, initialled where required and signed by the applicant. Incomplete, unsigned or improperly initialled forms may result in disqualification during the recruitment process.

Applicants must complete all fields in Sections A, B, C and D of the Z83 form. Where the available space in Sections E, F and G is insufficient, applicants may refer to their CV or indicate that additional information is attached. However, the question in Part F concerning circumstances that may prevent reappointment must be answered, and the declaration must be signed.

The required application documents are a detailed, up-to-date CV outlining previous employment experience, where applicable, and a fully completed and signed new Z83 application form. Only candidates who are shortlisted will be asked to provide certified copies of their qualifications and other supporting documents. These documents must be submitted by the interview date, as communicated by Human Resources, and must meet the requirements specified in the advertisement.

Applicants who are not South African citizens or who hold permanent residence permits and possess foreign qualifications must provide a qualification evaluation report from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) if shortlisted. Applications submitted by fax will not be accepted.

Applications received after the closing date or those that fail to meet the stated requirements will not be considered. Failure to provide the required documents may also lead to the application being rejected. The Department will communicate only with shortlisted applicants.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to complete a practical assessment before appointment. This exercise will evaluate their suitability against the technical and general requirements of the advertised position.

Applicants seeking appointment to Senior Management Service (SMS) positions must successfully complete the SMS Pre-Entry Programme, known as Nyukela, offered through the National School of Government (NSG). Before appointment, candidates must provide evidence that they have registered for and completed the required pre-entry programme.

The applicant is responsible for covering the cost of the Nyukela programme. The course is offered under the title Certificate for Entry into SMS. Further information is available on the National School of Government website at https://www.thensg.gov.za/training-course/sms-preentryprogramme/.

Candidates shortlisted for SMS positions will also be required to complete a technical competency assessment designed to evaluate their knowledge and ability in relevant areas of the position. The Department will communicate the arrangements for this assessment. Following the interview and technical evaluation, the selection panel will recommend suitable candidates for an assessment of general managerial competencies using the prescribed Department of Public Service and Administration (DPSA) SMS competency assessment tools.

Successful candidates will undergo personnel suitability checks, including criminal record screening, citizenship verification, credit history checks, qualification authentication and employment verification.

By submitting an application, applicants consent to the collection, processing and storage of their personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). The information provided will be used for recruitment and selection purposes and will not be disclosed to third parties without the applicant’s consent, except where disclosure is legally required.

Applicants who have not received communication within eight weeks after the closing date should regard their applications as unsuccessful. The Department retains the right not to appoint a candidate to any of the advertised positions.

The appointed candidate will be required to sign an employment contract and enter into a performance agreement.

The Department of Employment and Labour is an equal opportunity and affirmative action employer. Recruitment and appointment decisions will be guided by the Department’s Employment Equity Plan, with the objective of improving representation across race, gender and disability categories.
